Sophia Bacelar

Cuban-Chinese cellist and artist Sophia Bacelar was born in 1996 and grew up between New York, Paris, and Berlin. Sophia was accepted to The Juilliard School at age ten and studied music performance and art at the Conservatoire de Paris, the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin, the Museum of Modern Art (NY), and La Fondation Louis Vuitton (Paris). She currently holds a Celia Ascher Artist Diploma Fellowship at The Juilliard School and is a recipient of a 2019 Project Grant from Juilliard’s Career & Entrepreneurship Center to produce a multi-sensory, interdisciplinary performance art experience. Her work as an artist has been showcased at venues such as Carnegie Hall, Le Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, and the Berliner Philharmonie, as well as nightclubs, art galleries, and other alternative venues of performance.
